Why are baby teeth important?
Baby teeth are there for a reason. They help to: chew food, develop proper speech , guide permanent teeth, hold space for permanent teeth and provide esthetics. Maintaining baby teeth in good health is crucial for development of permanent teeth. The health of the baby teeth can determine the health of permanent teeth.
When should I start brushing?
As soon as the baby teeth erupt.
What are Cavities?
Dental caries or "cavities" are caused by bacteria and can spread from one tooth to another. Dental caries is an infectious disease. This is why brushing, flossing and rinsing are important to keep the level of harmful bacteria low.
Tips for good dental health:
Do not put your child to bed with a bottle
Always brush their teeth before putting them to sleep
Beware of frequent snacking
Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste
Floss once a day
Have sealants applied to prevent against decay
Seek regular dental checkups
Drink plenty of water and milk.
